He knew I would dismantle the bouquet,
I could hear his smile as he spoke on the telephone.

A ginger beer bottle of gum leaves on the window sill,
a rusting tin of wattle on the kitchen counter,
an old Bovril jar of waratahs and a protea
on the coffee table.

Waratahs and a protea, eh? Who knew? (Not me.) Lovely.

Completely alien flora, and utterly lovely.

Great when those who we love, know us so well and smile.

Beautiful, exotic blooms - and the Bovril jar looks pretty classy too.

Bovril? Not Marmite? I thought you were veggie.

Waratahs and protea? What strange new flowers are these? The unexpectedness of them made me smile.

And yet the ginger beer brings up a thousand relentlessly English associations.

Thank you for your comment; and you know, I do seem to be talking out my troubles. xo
